Sigiriya
We stayed in a guesthouse just next Sigiriya, a rock in the middle of the jungle.
Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla.
The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.
Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site.
So, the next morning we wanted to climb the enormous rock, but after seeing the price, we found a similar but smaller rock to climb and with no fees. It’s called Pidurangala Rock.
Also the best thing about it, is that you will get the amazing view of Sigiriya. It’s just simply beautiful.
On the way, you will see beautiful scenery, with the jungle all around. But also monkeys a lot of monkeys. Be careful if you are afraid of them.
Also on the main road you can find some amazing restaurants, with traditional Sri Lankan food.
Even if you don't want to do a climb, you don't want to miss the surrounding.
The Gardens of the Sigiriya city are one of the most important aspects of the site, as it is among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world..
