Street Art of Georgetown, Malaysia
The city of Georgetown is world-famous for the street art all over the old buildings. You can wander around and see amazing art shop, art gallery.
Making strolling through Georgetown's streets just a little bit more exciting, in 2012 Penang's municipal council hired London-trained Lithuanian artist, Ernest Zacharevic and charged him with breathing new life into some of the atmospheric Chinese shop-houses around the inner city.
An effort to spawn awareness of the rich history of the streets, the project was a success with Zacharevic turning certain areas into thriving tourist destinations that also became the much-talked-about object of attention among locals.
His artwork is spread out across Penang's city center, along roads like Muntri Street, Weld Quay, Lebuh Leith, Armenian Street, Ah Quee Street and more.
Zacharevic's street art is pretty impressive: the most widely known is the 20-foot high 'Little Girl In Blue,' a mural of a young child dressed in ocean blue pyjamas. Found just down the road from Eastern & Oriental Hotel, right next to this giant painting is a concentration of brightly-colored trishaws just waiting to take you to see some of the more intricate artwork around Georgetown.
You can see people creating art live on the street if you are lucky and ask them questions. If you are creative and love crafts and creativity, it's the town for you.
"Reaching Up" in Cannon Street was the first painting that we saw. It looks realistic from far; you think it's a real boy.
You have the old city part and the more modern piece with big malls, giant cinemas, all perfect to have some fun.
Of course, if you love food too, you can find food from all around the world.
We had terrific Chinese the first night, it's a bit different from the one you will find in your hometown, but you will love it.
