The White Temple Chiang Rai
The white temple in Chiang Rai is owned by Chalermchai Kositpipat, who designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997
It's a privately own temple and also an art piece. Chalermchai has spent THB1,080 million of his own money on the project.
You will never see anything like this. From far away, it looks like a traditional Thai temple, but when you get close to it, you can see all the crazy details.
First, the size is quite big, with a lot of different buildings around the land.
The entrance fee is free for the citizens and only $1.28 for the tourists, that's a steal. :)
There are many paintings on the walls that look normal, but when you get close, you can see bizarre drawings like some from The Matrix, Alien, Ninja Turtles, all the big Hollywood hits.
It's an art installation, so don't expect anything serious.
The best part is the entrance with the bridge, around a pit full of hands from hell, that looks quite scary but fun at the same time.
The surrounding area is full of shops and delicious food stalls.
Ask for a pad thai. You will not regret it.
