Sekumpul - The Tallest Waterfall In Bali
Indonesia || 2018
Bali is known for many things, one of which being its seemingly neverending display of waterfalls, in all different shapes, sizes and locations. A lot of these waterfalls are famous for different reasons and have become the perfect photography hotspots over the past few years because of social media. Never the less, they are still absolutely gorgeous, and its still totally possible to enjoy them despite more people being around than a few years ago.
I will have to start with my favorite, which is Sekumpul waterfall. This place is SO majestic, and the waterfall literally comes from whats considered to be a sacred pool, and some locals go there just to bath in said pool at the top of the falls. This pool is so peaceful and quaint, that is impossible to imagine how it could turn into such a grand waterfall – At a height of 80m/262ft. it is the tallest waterfall in Bali, and it packs a serious punch!
It ends deep in a jungle covered valley, and its unbelievable how lush everything in the valley is, mostly due to the consistent waterflow and the water particles in the air there. Just around the corner from it on either side, there are other gorgeous waterfalls, but even though they are also big and beautiful, they are belittled by the grand Sekumpul.
Another great thing about it is that you can make a daytrip out of visiting as the valleys are enormous and it very well may take some time to climb down and up the many stars on the way, but it is so so worth it. Even the drive to the waterfall area is an experience as it is in North Bali, where the climate, and sights are completely different.
Most people tend to stay in the southern half of Bali when they visit, typically not venturing far north of Ubud, but just north of that, the mountains start appearing, and they are beautiful! Its interesting to see how the lifestyle of the locals there is so different based on the agricultural and climatal differences found there., wich is another thing I really love about Bali!
Tips: I advise to go there by scooter as the ride on the northern half is quite fun and beautifully scenic, it takes about 2 hours by bike from seminyak area. Probably about an hour and 20 minutes from Ubud. Make it a morning thing as it does get crowded at around 11, so if you are able to go by scooter instead of in a car with a driver, you’ll be able to beat the crowds and have this magical place all to yourself (highly recommended).
