Kennet River Koala Walk, VIC, Australia

Most Australian’s have never seen a koala in the wild! Despite being one of the iconic animals of Australia they’re often hidden away in dense Eucalyptus woodland. Kennet River offers a real chance to see them in their natural habitat. A small outpost on the Great Ocean Road route just west of Melbourne, the Kennet River Koala Walk is an absolute Aussie bucket list must.
For the uninitiated, you’ll park your car by the small cafe by the road and start the steep ascent into the woodlands. It’s a really peaceful walk along an unsurfaced road, keep your eyes peeled for any movement in the tree tops! However there’s no guarantees and there’s a limit to how much ground you can cover. If you’re feeling a bit a bit lazy (like us!) you can also drive (slowly) up the winding road. I’d recommend doing this at dusk where crowds are very low and chances of spotting these fluffy creatures are much higher.
If you’re as lucky as we were, you’ll get the opportunity to see koalas up close. One climbed right down from it’s tree and sauntered out just in front of us.
