Porto Katsiki

The beautiful gem of Lefkas, Greece

Imagine my awe, as I stepped out of the car and immediately saw this breathtaing view direct from the parking lot. And guess what? Hard to believe but we were indeed among the first 10 individuals who got to enjoy the serenity of it all minus the crowd. Porto Katsiki. What a beauty to behold! Turquoise waters against the limestone cliff background and the white pebble beach. Just like the lucky goats in Cala Goloritze in Sardinia, this spectacular beach used to be accessible only by lucky goats, thus the name.

Enjoying the view from the cliff. Enjoying the view from the cliff.

Ramon used the peaceful time to take some of pictures with the morning light while I secured us a place further from the sunbeds. We ate our breakfast by the beach and swam with the waves. Unfortunately, snorkeling is inconvenient by these waters so I spent the passing time reading a book while Ramon played with the waves.

By noontime, the crowd filled the beach up- Greek families, Italian group of friends and English couples. The first tourist boat came too, allowing its passengers to dive into the turquoise waters for an hour and drove further to the other spectacular beaches of the West coast.

Some may say that the crowd makes a place loses its magic but as I observed the same view by the afternoon, crowds, noise and all, I was still in awe. The colors were even more saturated that no photo gave no justice. Porto Katsiki was worth all the early morning drive, sunburn and sweat.
