Brunch in Warrandyte
On a Lazy Sunday Afternoon
Warrandyte, a little town 30 mins out of Melbourne that’s very close to my heart, where family Sunday’s are spent walking the dog along the river and having caramel slices and coffee at the local bakery. In Summer we take the tubes to chill on the river and picnic blankets to lay and snack amongst the lush eucalypts.
The Warrandyte bakery, especially packed on Sundays, serves delicious barista coffee and all the home made pastries and sweets under the sun. We also especially love Warrandyte cafe, where you can also bring pets and sit either outdoors amongst the trees or indoors where it's warm and cozy in Winter. They have a wide range of breakfast and lunch options as well as delicious cakes and pastries ready to serve. My fave is the carrot cake!
There is a lot of farm land around the area and the Main Street hosts many farm house cafes with local produce and quaint little antique shops and book stores, making it feel like you’re hours away from the big city life, and somehow like you've travelled back in time, to a much simpler life...
Getting there :
From Melbourne CBD it’s about a 1 hour bus journey on the 906 bus, and will cost $4.40 using your myki card. If you’re driving it’s a beautifully scenic 30 minute trip, and free parking is fairly easy to find on the main road.
The Yarra river runs through the town and creates a stunning landscape to enjoy whilst walking or running along the trails before stopping for a coffee at one of the many cafe options on the strip.
The Black Saturday memorial site is also free to have a look at, close to the playground where you can let your kids play near the bakery. "Black Saturday" was a series of bushfires that burnt down massive areas of Victoria in 2009, killing 180 people, and names Australia's all time worst bush fires.
Warrandyte is not only home to many native flora and fauna, if you’re lucky enough you’ll also come across many indigenous animals such as the gorgeous kookaburra and maybe even a Koala up high in the towering eucalyptus trees! That’s if all the dogs running around haven’t chased them away!
