Solo Trip to Hong Kong
Exploring Hong Kong in 3 Days
After hearing nothing but good things about this city I had to see it for myself. Previously spending 3 weeks riding scooters in Bali it was time for a change of pace. Hong Kong seemed like just the place to stop, collect my thoughts, and get inspired before flying home to Los Angeles, California.
After landing I could just feel this place was going to be different. Showing up with no plan I whipped out my laptop in the airport and quickly found the cheapest yet most decent hostel I could find. With the target in mind, it was now just a mission of finding a home base.
Buying a 72hr metro pass I soon found myself speeding into the heart of Hong Kong. Getting off at the Wan Chai station I walked a few blocks to find my hostel nestled in between two shops. After getting settled I grabbed my camera and went for a walk.
Taking it in for the first time was something I'll always remember. The city NEVER. STOPS. MOVING. The people, the cars, the energy. With so many people on the streets, everyone is on a mission to get where they're going, efficiently. As a cinematographer this place sparked my mind like nothing else, finding a calm steady flow in the madness.
As the day closed I took the metro across Victoria Bay to Temple Street. Finding myself immersed in a sea of neon signs, neon billboards and accents. The streets filled with the smell of street vendors and the pace remained of a crowded street market.
Feeling so inspired I continued to walk around the city shooting photos and video into the late night.
Taking the ten minute Metro back to my hostel and preceded to get some rest.
The next day I went on a morning walk and got breakfast at a local diner. In Hong Kong, the city is so crowded that they seat many people at the same table to eat thier meals. Sitting next to complete strangers as we all enjoyed out morning coffee with breakfast.
The second and third day I took a different approach to see the city.
Using Instagram as a platform to meet others. I reached out to some local photographers, told them it was my first time in Hong Kong and asked if they could show me around.
Instagram has an amazing community of photographers! Always down to meet up and share ideas! Be smart when reaching out to people but also don't be afraid!
Elvis was a local photographer who took me under his wing and showed me all of his favorite spots! Spending my second day going all around the city finding those unique perspectives of HK.
Exploring the local culture, eating tons of Dim Sum and taking more photos than I could ever edit my time in Hong Kong drew to a close.
On the third morning, Elvis (Local Photographer) and I climbed to the top of Victorias Peak for sunrise. One of my favorite experiences of the whole trip.
If you have limited time in Hong Kong I would describe this spot as a must.
After my short trip to hong kong I am dying to go back. Still so much left to see and experience. You definately can not experience the whole city in 3 days but you can leave inspired and refreshed with your new experience.
If you havent been to Hong Kong and you love to travel add it to the list.
