Photographing Iceland’s Waterfalls
Skogafoss waterfall
During my first trip to Iceland, we rented a 4x4 and planned out a small road trip to see some of the famous waterfalls that the country is renowned for.
While we had high expectations, and the waterfalls did not fail to impress us. The size and scale of the falls are truly impressive in person, and it is really a different experience to be able to get so close up to the rumble and spray of the water as it crashes down.
My favourite waterfall was Skogafoss. Like most Icelandic words, I’m not sure how to pronounce it, but this one was magnificent. It is difficult to convey in words, but Iceland is a really great place to go if you are interested in photography or videography and want to get some amazing imagery to improve your portfolio with, or just for your own collection. It’s an amazing region of the world and one of the best for landscape and nature photography. It is definitely worth it to get to the popular spots as early as possible to avoid the tourists and ensure your shots are unobstructed!
I would say the best season to visit Iceland is in the winter, when the snow is there and everything is looking pristine, white, and beautiful. It also brings with it all the advantages of going somewhere in the off-season (cheaper accommodations, less congestion, etc.).
