The Old Biscuit Mill
Day/Night Local Market
Even though Cape Town is a lot of about hiking, surfing and adventure sports but there is a special feature of Cape Town that doesn’t get as much attention, and that is Cape Town’s local markets.
There are a lot of local markets around here but the most prominent one is the Old Biscuit Mill. It’s a tiny little village in the heart of Woodstock, that provides space for people to come together to share, collaborate and have a nice time.
The mill hosts a lot of day and night markets, a range of local designer shops, some really amazing restaurants and a dynamic workspace. The mill offers a small parking space, which is almost always full, so you have to either find yourself a spot on the street or some parking plaza nearby.
As you enter the mill, you’re welcomed with a nice, wide open space. Straight ahead of you is a tent, with live music and some nice bars.
To the right of the live music tent you find the food area. The food area offers a lot of different cuisines from around the globe. You can get anything from raw vegetables to a beautiful platter of sushi. You can tease your taste buds with a tantalizing snack or satisfy your stomach with a voluptuous meal.
There is some sitting space in the center, but on a weekend, there is a great chance you’ll find yourself eating while standing.
The other side of the Mill is dedicated to local designer shops. Things are slightly over priced from a local perspective, but if you are visiting from Europe or America or Canada, the exchange rate is in your favor and you might enjoy shopping here without worrying a lot about the prices.
Overall, the Old Biscuit Mill is just not a market, it’s an experience. In a tiny space in the middle of Woodstock, you familiarize yourself with everything like food from different cultures to minimalistic trendy furniture to the fashion scene of Cape Town.
If you’re in Cape Town, and want to plan a chilled day, where you just sit back, have a couple of drinks and enjoy the ambiance, I would definitely recommend visiting the Old Biscuit Mill!
