The Penguin Sanctuary
Cape Town, South Africa
Since, the day I landed in Cape Town, I wanted to go visit the Penguin sanctuary in Simon’s Town. It is the only place in the world, where you can have an intimate interaction with the African PENGWINGS… Yes, in the honor of Benedict Cumberbatch the great, I’m going to call these cute creatures pengWINGS for the rest of the article.
These cute creatures can be found at Boulder’s Beach in Simon’s Town. It is a protected sanctuary, so you do have to pay a nominal fee to get in.
The beach is home to 2000-3000 African Pengwings, but sadly enough these birds are classified as an endangered species.
You might not see any pengwings when you get to the beach, and you might feel like you just wasted money on nothing, but then suddenly you’ll suddenly see an alien creature waddling in a corner… That would be a pengwing…
You need to jump over and crawl under a few rocks to find more pengwings, but all that parkour is totally worth it, because these pengwings are the most photogenic creatures ever, and on top of that they MODEL FOR YOU!
But be careful, the pengwings won’t hesitate to bite you, or trust me they won’t mind dropping a duce right at your face, so keep a safe distance at all times. On a more serious note, make sure you don’t go close to the nest, or disturb any pengwings that are taking a nap, because that’s just bad. And you don’t want to be known as a bad person
When you’re done chasing around (or getting chased around) the pengwings, you can always just lay down on the white sand, soak in some Vitamin D, it’s a small beautiful beach, and just because it has a paid entrance there aren’t a lot of people around, so the entire experience is just great.
