The Yard
Not just a restaurant, a complete experience
YARD - a rustic, fun-loving restaurant existing in five gloriously distinct parts - each one with their own special culinary facet.
The YARD Bar is home to deluxe coffee works, margaritas, beers and the like. Mucky Mary’s includes a ‘world famous’ all-day, Hubcap breakfast. The Bitch’s Tits consists of luncheonette-type foods (tacos, subs, Prego-rolls). The Dog’s Bollocks make burgers the size of your head and the, ever so aptly named, Pizza Warehouse provides both Neapolitan and Romano style pizzas.
With so many great options available it was hard to settle on one for my meal. Luckily Debbie and Jess were there to help! Greeted with a resounding “Hello, welcome to YARD!”, our lively young waiters handed us each a clip boarded menu while we chose a small table to sit at in the back corner. It had a view of either side of the L-shaped building, perfect for observing the many art pieces scattered throughout. The warm glow of the table-side living room lamps only added to the pleasingly homespun atmosphere as Debbie asked what we would like to drink.
Normally when you ask a waiter what the flavor of their “Classic Ice-Tea” is, they wouldn’t respond with “I don’t know but it tastes fuckin’ amazing”. Now, some might be taken aback by the crudeness of this response but that is what YARD is all about. It is not a place to wear a tie and talk business while sipping Chardonnay. No! It is a place to gather with friends and family, have a good time, a couple of drinks, and some really good food. The waiters’ brutally honest, yet still respectful, attitude is only part of the experience.
The Romano-style pizza I ordered far exceeded my expectations. A thick base and home-made tomato paste, coupled with some prosciutto and rocket, created a delicious, filling meal that I won’t be soon forgetting (As a sucker for deep-dish pizza, this was my wish come true).
The Pizza Warehouse at YARD - with its people, service, setting, and food - was a fantastic experience in all aspects. I wish to return soon and try The Dog’s Bollocks, or will it be The Bitch’s Tits? Guess we’ll see!
