Alberobello, Puglia, Italy

Land Of The Trulli Houses

Photogenic corners

Being a region that I discovered and have traveled to over the last three years, Puglia (Apulia in English) holds a special place in my heart. White is the dominant tone here, and you’ll find yourself in a constant summer mood all year long. Like most of italy, you’ll see that there’s no shortage of Unesco sites in Puglia, and Alberobello can proudly brag that it hosts many.

A less crowdy moment... A less crowdy moment...

Located in Valle d’Itria, across the provinces of Brindisi and Taranto, just south of its capital, Bari, Alberobello is famous for its “trulli”. “Trulli” are ancient Apulian round houses made of stone with a conical roof. While the area is chock full of them (you can find them everywhere driving in the countryside amid seas of olive trees) the ones in Alberobello are the most famous and colourful ones.

Walking throughout the village you’ll find small shops with handcrafted products and souvenirs, plus delicious local products like “tarallucci”, “orecchiette”, and olive oil (probably the best olive oil you’ll ever taste in your life, as Puglia is home to more than a billion olive trees!).

More details! More details!

It’s been touristy nowadays so the place tends to be a little bit crowded, but you can’t really miss a stop here.
