Explore the Siargao Mangroves
Take a boat ride through this stunning greenery!
Siargao is full of natural beauty, and what better way to experience it than taking a boat ride among the mazes of mangroves dotting the island. We went out for a beautiful sunset ride, when the mangroves were alive with the sounds of birds chirping. This is still one of the more non-touristy things to do on the island, and we were lucky enough to be one of the only people out on the water.
Since this is not really a popular thing to do, you won’t find any signs pointing out the dock to get a boat from. The mangrove dock is located around 4km before the airport when driving north from General Luna. You will see the road start to bend and mangroves on the right, as well as a small dock that has a few dingys. If you type in “PBMA Inc. – Puyangi Sub-chapter” into your GPS, the dock is located 200 metres before.
On the right side of the dock, you will see a small house. Knock on their door and ask if the grandpa can take you out on his boat. The boat is similar to a wooden kayak, and seems like it only fits 3 people at once. A 30 minute boat ride costs around 250 PHP (less than $5 USD) and is one of the most beautiful experiences we have had in the Philippines, and an amazing end to our day exploring the island.
