Retruco

Buenos Aires bodega in Barcelona

Pizza

Retruco is located in the fast-growing neighborhood of Poble Nou, in the North East part of the city. The place was founded by two Argentinians with lots of nostalgia for the traditional Argentinian bodega meals.

Choripan Choripan

Here you can have all the typical Argentinian dishes (besides barbacoa): empanadas, Argentinian pizza, ‘sandwich de Milanesa’, ‘choripan’, ‘Milanesa a Caballo’, etc.

The atmosphere at this venue not only gives you the typical Argentinian flavors but also the look and feel. The tables, the smell, the decoration, everything is like being teleported to Buenos Aires.

Here, I tried (and shared) three different dishes. To begin, a Sandwich de Milanesa. Milanesa is a breaded slice of really tender cow meat. This is put into a baguette with ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and fried eggs served with french fries. It is a traditional working-class meal, super tasty and caloric.

Then I tried a slice of the Pizza Especial. The Argentinian pizza is similar to Neapolitan pizza in Italy but taller and with more toppings.

Cheesecake Dulce de Leche Cheesecake Dulce de Leche

For dessert, I ate a typical cake that my mother still makes (I don’t know if you had read my other stories, but I am Argentinian): Cheesecake de Dulce de leche. This is like a regular cheesecake, but instead of having fruits on top, it has Dulce de leche, the traditional sweet Argentinian caramel. If you want to make a single day journey to Buenos Aires (without buying an expensive ticket) you have to come to Retruco and try some of our famous dishes. You won't regret it.
