Borough Market in London

Our Review By Hero Traveler @stephlong

One of the largest and oldest markets in the city

If you are a foodie Borough Market is somewhere you MUST try, homing a variety of foods from around the globe from large wheels of cheese, fresh meats, vegetables, bread, fish, fruit, spices, poultry, and seafood. Renowned for the quality of their fresh produce it fast became one of the most exciting, bustling and atmospheric place to eat, drink, and shop. The various aromas filling the market make it difficult to decide on what to pick for lunch so I always do a few laps of the place before choosing.

Surrounding the market is a range of different restaurants, wine bars, coffee shops, and pubs so you really need to spare a good few hours, or even the whole afternoon so you can soak up the atmosphere and try as many samples as you can along the way.

For all you Bridget Jones fans (like myself) her flat is situated right in the center of the market in one of the rooms above the Globe pub, so don’t forget to have a look before you go! Maybe even have a glass of wine or beer in the pub below.

If you’re visiting London and you want to visit all the iconic spots where Londoners go on the regular and tourists flock to then Borough Market should be on your list. You can find it right opposite London Bridge station, with great views of the Shard, plus in the other direction you are a short walk away from the riverside. So when you leave the market in a food and wine coma you can then take a gentle and scenic walk along the river with iconic landmarks such as St Pauls and Tower Bridge right there for you to admire.
