Djurgården - The Royal Garden
Östermalm, Stockholm, Sweden
Djurgarden is a tranquil island known for the famous Vasa Museum, featuring a 17th century warship, and the Skansen, an open-air museum.
Djurgarden or, more officially, Kunglila Djurgarden is located in central Stockholm. Djurgarden means the “royal game park” and it has been in possession of the crown since 15th century. This island is home to historical buildings and monuments, museums, galleries, Skansen and yacht harbours.
The best way to reach the royal garden is on foot because you are able to explore the city. Although, nearby you can find the subway station Karlaplan.
Djurgarden is one of the Stockholmers’ favorite recreation areas and tourist destinations, attracting over 10million visitors per year.
We visited Djurgarden in March. I was lucky enough to witness a frozen sea. With the temperature being below 9˚ C the coasts were frozen. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. We sat on a waterfront promenade to enjoy this unique view.
On this island among others, you can find the Vasa Museum, the Abba Museum, the Biological Museum and of course the famous Skansen which is the world’s oldest open-air museum displaying traditional Swedish architecture.
