Valanaris Waterfall
Drafi, Penteli, Greece
The Valanaris waterfall is located in Drafi, Penteli. It is nearly half an hour away from the center of Athens and it reminds us of the hidden treasures that Greece has to offer.
The name Valanaris derives from the oak forest that once dominated the surrounding hills. The stream begins from the heights of Mavrenoras in southern Penteli. It flows south and then leaves east where it creates the stream of Rafina which is about sixteen kilometers. In the middle of its path, at the height of Drafi, it creates the Valanaris Waterfall. It is about six meters high.
Two twin waterfalls are created when the stream is not as powerful but when it rains, the stream transforms into a very strong current. From the top of the waterfall, there is a small spoon and a nice gorge. The area is full of conglomerates, sandstones, marls, and red clay rocks. The downhill trail is a bit steep so you will need to pay attention when hiking through here especially in the middle of the downward route.
You will have a magnificent view when you finally reach the Valanaris Waterfall. It will be a very rewarding experience. You can have a nice picnic next to the waterfall so make sure to bring food or snacks. Also, do not forget to bring your bathing suit! The water is crystal clear so you will enjoy swimming in the lake. The Valanaris Waterfall is a wonderful choice for a visit
