A festive paradise

The Munich Christmas markets in the south of Germany in the famous province of Bavaria is the perfect place to embrace the holiday season. Located near the snow-capped Alps, the city bursts with market stalls, hot wursts to warm your belly, steins of beer in great halls for when you get too cold outside and that all important festive spirit.
You can reach Munich by train from Salzburg. The two hour journey takes you through Alpine Bavaria and is the perfect way to combine two famous Christmas markets into one wonderfully festive trip.
The stalls here are a little more varied in their wares. It’s a great place to make a start on your Christmas shopping by picking up quirky gifts that you won’t find at home. Purchase some festive decorations for your tree and your home and every year you’ll be reminded of your trip as you hang them up each December.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth you won’t be disappointed. Street sellers will tempt you with candied nuts and you’ll find gingerbread shaped into hearts, houses and even animals and iced with festive messages. They make lovely presents if you can resist eating it all before you arrive home!
