Amalfi Coast Gems III
Valle delle Ferriere
Set in a mountainous inlet, with the beautiful city of Amalfi as a starting and ending point, and entirely surrounded by nature, lies Valle delle Ferriere.
We took the well signed path that starts from Amalfi, and after one kilometer or less, we got into another dimension. We had just left the civilization and started walking into a deep forest, accompanied just by the sounds of it and the flowing waters of a nearby stream.
On the path we found many old and run down buildings, that made us feel like we were into an Indiana Jones style movie. Those were ancient water mills that were built to get the necessary energy to create the prestigious paper of Amalfi.
Going on we crossed an old medieval bridge and met some small but beautiful waterfalls that just helped us feel two adventurers discovering a place forgotten in time, like a sort of Eldorado. The funny thing though was to think that few kilometers from there was lying a vibrant touristy city.
After an hour or so we arrived at the last part of the path, the “Riserva Statale Valle delle Ferriere” delimited by a fence. After crossing it we walked for just 20 minutes crossing small wood bridges and finding other small waterfalls until the end of the path, with a majestic feel of wonder for that fairytale beautifulness that surrounded us.
