A place like no other
So rich
To describe a place like Versailles, you could use a plethora of adjectives: magnificent, lavish, huge, mind-blowing, etc. Like many, I came to know this mansion and its gardens from school books, yet the real visit is something else.
The Chateau is located about 45 minutes outside of Versailles, and the cheapest and most convenient way to get there is by train. During high season the queue at the entrance can drive you insane, so don’t forget to book your tickets in advance and start your visit in just minutes! As you enter the premises, everything you see will leave you speechless. From the bedrooms to the magnificent halls, this place played a significant role in the world’s history and has been preserved exceptionally well through the centuries. Every corner screams opulence!

As much as you can be impressed by the grandiosity of the palace, nothing prepares you for the visit of its massive 2000-acre gardens. The sheer amount of details is probably unmatched by any other place in the world: amazingly manicured lawns, fountains, and sculptures populate the entire area, where baroque music is spread by hidden speakers located across the gardens.
The Petit Trianon
Across the property, there are multiple spots where you can sip some fresh orange juice, or enjoy a coffee or a gelato. Again, the level of preservation is astounding. You can experience more of this in other structures like the Grand Trianon, where King Louis XIV used to escape in search of some privacy. Or the Petit Trianon, another building where Queen Marie Antoinette created her private residence away from the main palace.

A proper visit of the Chateau of Versailles should take an entire day, and it’s worth every penny! Try to plan a trip here around September or October (Spring is good as well) to avoid big crowds.
