Traditional Cuisine and Nice Views
Traditional Portuguese cuisine on a great terrace
Close to the Eastern border of Portugal, there is a small town built between big stones. They look as if they come directly from the giants’ era. Some houses are even built into the stones! This picturesque town is called Monsanto and it’s also said to be the most traditional Portuguese town in Portugal. But before being entirely Portuguese it was inhabited also by the Romans, Visigoths, and Arabs. Even during the Paleolithic period, there were settlers in this place.
If you want to taste a piece of this history and the current essence of the place you must go to eat at Taverna Lusitana. There, you’ll find the best of Portuguese cuisine with rich flavors from the past (such as mead).
Sitting on a panorama terrace you can observe the town from up top and enjoy a broad landscape. Order the local sausages, olives, and cheeses as a starter. As a main dish, you must taste the bacalao (codfish), the duck rice or the pica-pau (pork stew).
All of them delicious dishes and derived from the traditional recipes of Portugal. To conclude your meal, in Taverna Lusitana you can find a large repertoire of sweets and desserts. If you want to keep on the Portuguese path choose the sheep cheese or cream cake. Yes! Those famous ones from Belém.
