The Waterfall Way of Australia
200 km of Wild Beauties
Adventure is my favorite word. And do you know what my second favorite is? Nature!
As a traveler, these ar two fundamental elements that I can’t miss in my trips. The Waterfall way is the perfect combination of my two favorite things. It roughly runs for 200 km from Coffs Harbour to Armidale, and as its name says, you will find plenty of waterfalls on the way. But they are not the only attraction in the area. As you travel along Waterfall way, you will experience amazing National parks, local towns and wild campsites.
Bellingen is the start point of the journey. We suggest beginning your day with a lovely breakfast at one of the many cafes and enjoy the hippie town vibes. Half an hour after Bellingen, you’ll reach Dorrigo National park and its rainforest center. From there, a 6km walk will lead you to the first waterfalls of the day: Crystal Shower Falls and Tristana Falls. For the more adventurous like me, it’s worth getting wet by passing under the waterfall or taking pictures from the suspended bridge in front of it. Before leaving the fainforest center, we went for a short walk on the Skywalk plataform, built 20m above the Gondwana Rainforest.
Next was my favorite waterfall of the trip: Dangar Falls. Once you’ve arrived you have two options. Walking to the lookout platform to admire the falls from above or take a ten-minute walk to the base where you can also have a swim. The last stop before arriving at our amazing campsite is Ebor Falls. It is possible to photograp the multi-step cascade from two different platforms: the upper and the lower. You need to decided which perspective you like most, and trust me, it won’t be easy because both of them are really worth it.
The day is almost over when we arrive at New England National Park, the perfect spot to end the day. The Thungatti campsite is a great location to enjoy the night with an amazing fire. It gets a little cold during the night so the fire provides more than ambiance. Make sure you find a trail called Lybird walking track which will take you high up the clouds where you can watch a breathtaking sunset.
