Prenj-Where The Paradise Begins
Highlander Adventure
After the first two experiences I thought I had already seen a lot of thing about Bosnia. Guys .. it wasn’t absolutely true. I didn't think they could turn into the two most beautiful days of my life, and now I’ll tell you why!
Prenj is a mountain range in the Dinaric Alps of southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in eastern Herzegovina near Mostar, Jablanica and Konjic. The highest peak is Zelena glava at 2,115 m (6,939 ft). Prenj massif has at least 11 peaks over 2000 m.
Same story, same guide. Always him, the best. Keno! I couldn't have had a better guide for this crazy trip! Before leaving, we went to Konjic to load two of our Swedish friends. Annie, and doro Oro (that's how she calls herself ahahaha). Two very nice girls, curious, and enterprising. I didn't think they could keep up with us on a difficult route like the of the valley of Mount Prenj. We stopped the car after a tortuous journey, luckily the keno jeep. We prepare the backpacks, 30kg each, and off we go. The experience was already beginning to be suggestive, given the landscapes that already made me stop every 3 min to take pictures .. crazy stuff! The landscape was very tending to the rocky .. an expanse full of rocks and always green. A fairy
There were many stops for the water because of the strong heat. After a 6-hour trek we arrived at the refuge, well, what to do immediately after lunch? Let's get the first hike session immediately. Right in front of the refuge. Really intense climb. 2 hours of walking each way. The drone is starting to become useful for real. I have never been so happy to have brought it with me despite its huge weight. To get off we came across a spectacular light cut in half by the mountain.
In the distance, or in konijc, I knew thanks to the weather that had put heavy rain that day. Forget it. The lightning that could be seen from the distance came immediately to us. We were undecided whether to go back because of the heavy rain accompanied by the wind and the sky that became increasingly black and angry. The girls were convinced. Me even more. I wanted to go to the highest peak. To see the world. It was a big risk..but we started to hike seriously. We took so much of that water that I do not remember having ever experienced such a moment in my life. I repaired my camera and equipment with all forces. 3 hours spent walking and climbing in the rain.
Keno says: do we want to go back? It does not seem to promise well .. we were all convinced. We want to get to the top, even if we probably wouldn't have seen anything .. after 5 hours guys .. the unlikely happened .. the hardest part begins .. the via ferrata .. but nothing was visible. Keno was prepared for these situations. With his torches and his excellent sense of orientation we were able to walk without problems. But at some point .. boom! At 300 m from the peak .. the top begins to glimpse .. the sky begins to lighten .. Keno screams with joy! The girls start to cry from happiness. I immortalize every single moment and incredulous of the show I had in front of me. Well nothing ... we run to the top.. I lived the best twenty minutes of my whole life. Fiery red sky, shadows and a few rays of sunshine .. and then ... a sea of clouds. Heaven.
It got dark .. it's time to go back, let's light the torches .. and after the rain we found 6 black salamanders of the mountain prenj. Very rare to find. But that evening .. everything was more magic. Nature was on our side.
After the Rain/thunder storm.. We catched sometjing unbelievable guys!! We were about the clouds definitely! What a memory!
Returning to the refuge, we cooked, and made some new friends, all from Germany who were traveling the Dinaric way. Well what to say, the night was even more spectacular .. admire a sky with a million stars accompanied by that mountain breeze. wow. On waking up, the next day, unfortunately we caught bad weather in full. We had to stay at the refuge and then as soon as it stopped me and keno we left for our last stop .. Skakavac waterfall!
What an experience!
