The Algarve – Sunset Guide
2019// Algarve Portugal
Last post I covered my favorite sunrise locations – this time its all about the saucy sunsets! The algarve is definitely a hotspot for awesome sunset views, because there are plenty and the coastline is magical – usually makes for a pretty good combination! Coupled with a glass of portuguese wine and good company, you will be loving the locations on this list!
Similar to sunrise, it can change quite drastically from winter to summer in terms of where the sun actually sets, but even if you cant see the sun dip behind the horizon, the views and expected colours at these following spots are incredible nonetheless! It’s really hard to be disappointed about a sunset when you are at locations along the Algarve coast because it is just so gorgeous all the time, everywhere you go!
First up, in my opinion, will have to be Praia da Albandeira! This locations is madness – its your classic perfect ‘unbelievable rock formation over blue ocean and golden sand beach’ location, the one that you could dream of to be honest. This natural rock arch is mesmerizing, and comes with gorgeous golden sunset views – and even though you cant see the sun actually setting from this spot, the colours that come to life here are absolutely incredible!
Next up is its neighbour, Praia da Marinha. This might even be the best of them all to be honest but its so hard to put these locations up against eachother in a fair battle as I have no clue which would win the title! This place has so many different frames to shoot and you could honestly spend a few hours here running around the cliff line finding new frames and angles (in both directions) – and admiring the view of the double arch and peaking rocks below. Not only are the views incredible, but you can also get down to the beautiful long beach below for a stroll or a full beach day!
Spot number 3 is Ponta Da Piedade! This location featured as my 2nd favorite for sunrise, but is most definitely also a gem for sunset. Again, you can’t exactly see the sun setting over the horizon here, but the colours lighting up the entire coastline, coupled with the never ending depth of views that you have from this spot and the boardwalk made facing the sunset, make it a valued contender for “best spots”.
The only downfall with this spot is that it has been super windy every time I have gone for sunset, but that doesn’t change how beautiful it is! Since the skies are often coated with sahara sands drifting through the sunset views, you are likely to be impressed with it from more or less anywhere, but the mentioned spots are definitely my favorite locatios to head out to when going for the final rays of the day!
Hope this helps you all out with planning your itinerary for your Algarve trip!
