Searching for Trdelnik
Traditional Sweets of Prague
The last thing people would think to do in December is have ice cream. Especially in Prague where temperatures tend to drop below -8 °C. But when in Prague this past December we couldn't leave without having some Trdelnik!
Trdelník, trdlo or chimney is a traditional kind of spit cake. It is made from rolled dough that is wrapped around a stick, then grilled, topped with sugar and walnut mix and then filled with ice cream.
Rolling around the Old Town we followed the delicious smell from Karlov Most to Klementinum in search for the best Trdelnik. The best we found came from the Good Food, Coffee and Bakery.
In Good Food you can choose from many flavors such as chocolate, tiramisu, vanilla soft ice cream, blizzard, pistachio, strudel, berries, etc. In addition, they serve four special Trdelniks; King, Devil, Raspberry Kiss and Mac & Cheese. The King Trdelnik is homemade vanilla ice cream, nuts, chocolate brownies, salted caramel and chocolate topping. The Devil Trdelnik is a homemade black ice-cream with activated carbon and coconut cone. The raspberry kiss is homemade raspberry ice cream with raspberry powder cone. The mac & cheese trdelnik is with cheese and macaroni.
We visited Good Food twice. The first time we had the Raspberry Kiss and the Devil Trdelnik; unique flavors that really hit the spot. I had the Raspberry kiss and my husband had the Devil. To be honest, mine was better. If you like the taste of sweet and sour you will love this one!
The second time I had the pistachio flavored Trdelnik. I am a huge fan of pistachio with chocolate. Each bite was better than the last.
