Winter Wonderland Magic at Hyde Park
No better way to get into the Christmas spirit!
If you haven’t already heard of Winter Wonderland and you’re visiting London around Christmas time, then you are in for a treat! It’s the kind of place locals go every year without fail (me included) and also the place that attracts new visitors with open arms. It is great for so many reasons, plus it caters for a variety of days out that suit families, groups of friends and couples.
If you didn’t already feel festive… as soon as you enter you’ll be absorbing everything that embodies Christmas. From the alluring aroma of mulled wine, the heartwarming sound of Christmas songs and dinky huts displaying ornate handmade decorations and keep-sake gifts that are always a little too tempting! Side note - be careful after you’ve had one too many drinks as you’ll end up buying things you definitely didn’t need!
Admittedly, a lot of people go there and head straight to one of the many little beer huts which are perfect for a more cosy and intimate huddle, or to the main beer hall, which is a classic large Bavarian hall with rows of benches, bars (it’s obligatory to get a stein!), and food stands. I personally love the Bratwurst but you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to German food. As you can imagine, it gets very rowdy but is such a good laugh with a selection of somewhat cheesy (but good) bands on stage providing the entertainment. You can’t miss the Bavarian beer hall as there is normally a queue to get in, so if you’re heading there in the evening bare that in mind!
For the more activity driven visitors you can have a go on the ice rink; I make a point of getting on the ice every year as it is a sure way to get you in the spirit. This is a great activity to do with friends and family and you get a good 40 mins on the ice. For the thrill-seekers, there are a selection of rides and roller coasters, a Ferris wheel, and loads of opportunities to win your loved one a teddy bear by putting your ball through hoop skills to the test.
All in all, if you’re visiting London and you want a slice of beer-fuelled Christmas cheer or a fun day out with the kids then you must pay a visit, plus its free entry!
