Have you ever been in a town filled up with street art and graffiti, site of Unesco Heritage?

If the answer is no, then you have to visit George Town, the main city in Penang, the biggest island in Malaysia.

George Town became an English colony in 1867 and in 2008 was declared a site of Unesco Heritage.

The English “touch” is still visible today, among the hundreds of beautiful and precious colonial houses, which have been preserved and kept unchanged.

GRAFFITI EVERYWHERE!

The most special thing about George Town is its amazing street art: graffiti are in every corner of the Old Town and visitors have a lot of fun taking pictures of them (and with them!).

Most of the graffiti represent characters in actions, so it’s easy to “be part” of these work of art: just pose next to the figures painted on the wall and have your photo taken!

A GREAT MULTICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT

George Town is also famous for being one of the most multicultural city in Malaysia, together with Kuala Lumpur. In fact, three different ethnic groups live peacefully together: Malaysians are the majority, followed by Chineses and Indians.

Each of them practice their own religion, have their habits and costumes and eat their own food. All of them keep their own traditions and respect each others.

So don’t be surprise if, walking on the street you see a Mosque next to a Catholic Church, next to an Indian Temple.

INCREDIBLE FOOD

Because of this beautiful mix of people from different countries, the FOOD ended up being one of the best in Malaysia.

George Town is a bustling melting pot, where different traditional Asian cousins meet, becoming a food paradise.

Food courts are the best places to eat and try different types of dish.

If you want to buy some loca fresh food, such as fish, meat or vegetables, Chowrasta Bazaar on 26, Jalan Chowrasta, it's probably the best option.

NIGHT LIFE

Looking for some night life? You can’t absolutely miss the lively atmosphere of Chulia Street and Love Lane, filled with bars and pubs, where to have few drink and listen to some live music.

If you want to have few cheap drinks before hitting the club, then stop by the hostel bar called Tipsy Tiger, where you always have fun!

George Town is a vibrant and artsy place, where Art is the pulsing heart, that brought together people of different cultures.
