Visiting Mont-Saint-Michel
Mont-Saint-Michel is one of the most magical places I’ve ever visited. After seeing photos of this fairytale island, I knew I needed to visit, and last summer, I got to make that bucket-list dream a reality. Mont St. Michel is an island commune in Normandy, a northern region of France.
This tiny island is famously home to the Saint Michel Abbey, located at the very top of the island! This island was only accessible at low tide in years past. At low tide, you could walk from the mainland to the island, but this walkway would be totally covered in water at high tide. Now there’s a bridge so you don’t have to worry about the tides to access the island! You could visit Mont-Saint-Michel on a day trip while exploring the region, or you could stay overnight at one of the few hotels on the island. My family and I chose to stay overnight, and I’m so glad we did.
During the day, it’s very crowded with tourists, but once they clear out in the early evening, you’ll be able to experience this iconic site practically on your own. Mont-Saint-Michel is a truly stunning place, and I think it’s somewhere everyone should visit once in their lives. Be sure to tour the abbey and wander through the village streets while you’re there.
