Cinque Terre - The Colorful Coast

Italy // 2019

I spent 5 days roadtripping from Rome to Cinque Terre and back, hitting several locations along the way, but this glorious colourful coastline complex of 5 picture perfect towns was definitely a highlight!

It’s about 5 hours north of Rome by car, along the western coast of Italy. You might even decide to stop to take in the wonders of Tuscany on the way there (which we also did) or take the slight detour through Florence or Pisa for an added stop! However, back to the subject of perfect villages, Cinque Terre consists of 5 coastal villages, each with their own charm and unique aspect.

Whether it’s the beach of Monterosso al Mare, or the sunset viewpoint in Vernazza, the magnificence of Corniglia and how its basically built on the stilts of the ocean, the food and views in Manarola or the quaintness of Riomaggiore – Cinque Terre truly has something to offer every taste!

Not only in terms of views and activities is it highly recommended, it’s also great for some Italian gelato, fresh seafood dishes and of course delicious wines! These are just bonuses for me however, as my focus is always on the photography and content creating when I visit new locations! It was hard to choose where to go for the best light as we were only there for just over 24 hours total, but managed to enjoy some breathtaking views! Favorites listed at the bottom!

A tip that will pay off if you are low on time like I was, is to get the train between the 5 towns! If you’re there at a comfortable time of year, you might even decide to hike between all the towns! I didn’t have time for that when I was there unfortunately but next time I will make sure to explore that trail!

My favorite shooting locations were (these are in no particular order)

• - Vernazza viewpoint at sunset

• - Monterosso Rock

• - Manarola viewpoint during golden hour

• - From a shuttle boat (which you can hire privately between the towns)

• - Vernazza from the docks

Hope this helps! Happy Travelling Friends
