St Peter’s Pool – Jump Malta

Malta// 2019

I just left Malta this morning after spending 4 days there and I absolutely loved it! Malta Island is jam packed with diversity in landscape, shades of blue, and locations to see/visit/shoot. Little unknown fact (I am just assuming this, as I had no clue before planning the trip) Malta actually consists of 3 islands, the main and largest island being Malta Island, then a small island on the north western tip called Comino, followed by Gozo which is north west of Comino. On our short trip we didn’t make it up to Gozo, but smashed the highlights of Comino and of course the main Island. This post is about my favorite location on the main island – and it’s a good one. I seriously love spots like this and I think it’s quite clear why – beautiful limestone cliff and pool formations, with incredible shades of blue covering the entire area!

The location I’m talking about is called St Peter’s Pool and is located near Marsaxlokk village on the south eastern part of the island. It seriously looks like a little slice of blue water heaven and as one may expect, it also receives its deserved recognition on a daily basis. We assumed this would be a hotspot due to its beauty, so decided to head there quite early! We got to the parking spot at around 9:15 on Sunday morning and I believe there was about 8-10 people when we got there. Considering the location, that was a luxury situation! We stuck around until about 1pm and by the time we left there was well over 100 people there and more arriving by the second, literally! Driving back we encountered queus of cars on the one road leading to the place, so we were very happy with our earlybird decision!

A little bit about the place: you can get there by car or by bus and walk. I highly recommend the car option, as the nearest bus stop is 30-40min on foot away and in the sweltering heat of the Maltese sun, walking there might be fine as you can hop straight into the beautiful water – however, walking back, looked like a real struggle! You can rent cars from small vendors all over the island, mainly the bigger towns, for as little as 30 euros per day, so doing this is very much worth it in my opinion! Parking on site is 3 euros and you can stay as long as you like – it’s quite easy to get to even though it seems to sort of be in the middle of no where, but its one of the most beautiful places ive ever seen in Europe for sure!

The reason I love this place so much is not only because of its immense beauty, but even more so because of how much fun it is! It’s perfect pool shape combined with an ideal depth, has made it a highly attractive cliff jump spot and you will see people lining up to jump, or to try to amp themselves up enough to go for it! It is probably about 6m-7.5m in height- more or less always, as a maltese guy there told me that Malta isn’t actually subject to tides… I haven’t checked up on this since so it might be completely false information, but I was intrigued by this “fact” haha.

There are several spots to jump from, all different heights and it is super easy to get in and out as there is a ladder built just a short swim away from the jump site, or with a bit of experience you can climb up the rock on the side also! It is also very easy to see where it is safe to jump, however if you don’t feel comfortable, just ask someone there who looks comfortable, or notice where everyone jumps! (rule of thumb for that location is to aim for the bright light blues and you’ll be fine!)

Happy adventuring friends!
